Over at Core77 design blog is an entry about devices on the market that enable you to obtain the absolute last possible squeeze of toothpaste from the tube. Some of them, like the one pictured, squeeze the toothpaste from the bottom upwards, while others feature a turnkey operation. Personally, I’ve never felt the need to use one of these devices, primarily because I don’t see the need to get every last scrap of toothpaste out of the tube–but you might feel differently. Either way, it’s an surprising look at what exists to fill this market.
So…how do YOU get the last from your toothpaste tube? Or don’t you bother?
well… i didn’t used to bother, but i have been told now i should – there are people dieing in africa, i should be greatful
i use a door myself, combined with a sliding technique using the base of my hand…. honest!
Fayyaad, i used to be like you … then I found these nifty little cans (either colgate‘s or aquafresh‘s). my world changed. Admittedly, to date, I’ve not yet reached the bottom of the can … but i’ll let you know how it empties the can (or not) of toothpaste. On a totally different note – the aquafresh one works better than the colgate one.
A CAN of toothpaste?? Now THAT’S a new one to me! Wonder if it’s more or less effective than the tube…
well, you need to depress a nozzle … so there’s no squeezing involved. It might appeal to some people! I am not sure about effectiveness – will experiment and let you know.
oh, btw – did you know that you cant get mentadent in the UK? Apparently, it’s cos it aint manufactured over here. If I want mentadent, I need to go to the EU. Crazy!
Yes! It’s like a can of whipped cream.(Heaven) I saw them too but Sameer wouldn’t let me buy one. *grumble grumble* I think he likes squeezing the last bits out of the tube. He puts it on the counter and then uses the base of his palm to shmoosh it all from the bottom of the tube to the nozzle. Personally, I can’t be bothered. But if you think about it, the fact that the can is not see through and you can’t really feel how much is left at the very end probably discourages people from trying to get the last last last bit out. After all, you’ll never really know if you did or didn’t, just that the nozzle doesn’t squirt anything out any more.
A rolling pin…I’ve told you this before the Feeyaad. Even though you think it’s beneath your dignity to use one!

I want one of those! After I’ve squeezed out as much toothpaste as I possibly can, I usually just cut the tube in half and then scrape the remaining toothpaste onto my toothbrush.
