Perhaps it’s cause I recently seen a musical – perhaps it’s the desire to see Buffy again, but whatever the reason playing Gears of War 2 on-line along side friends really inspired me.
So many phrases in the games, and statements and actions really lent themselves towards lyrics from many songs. For example, when our friend was dying and her husband in a suicidal run to be with her lent itself to I just died in your arms tonight (and yes I did hum it to myself as it happened). There were many more, which due to bad memory I can’t recall.
So, could it be done, could a comic musical be created – I think so
How about you, any games that you’ve played that would lend to a particular genre or song type – and what think of you of GOW2: The Musical?

Hey nice pic! I would like to mention Shadow of the Colossus, the music and the atmosphere reminded me of Beck album sea change. I guess that they did not intend it, yet there is a strong melancholic link.
@peaecelrring: Yea, but how do you propose they get those MASSIVE monsters onstage?
@Joe: I’m not sure about games lending themselves to musicals. As it is, most games are pretty flimsy on plot and don’t necessarily translate well into a dramatized version: this is the exact reason why most game-to-movie scenarios just don’t work. That being said, I suspect that the more plot-fresh games–I’m looking at you, old lucasarts games!–might have what it takes. Monkey Island: The Musical? I can see that happening…it has enough of its own silliness and laughs at itself enough to do so. Maniac Mansion the Mystical Musical? Yep, can see that too, and would probably work if Tim Schaffer and LucasArts would give their blessings. Musical Mario, on the other hand? Err…no. I’ll pass.
Not having played GoW myself, I can’t judge, so I’ll just say “I’ll have to wait and see”.
Around level 30, once the damn bloodmounts come in, and one of us just got blowed up and we don’t have a boom shield: “Oh, we’re half way there. Ooh-oh, living on a prayer!”
