Turns out volunteers are spraying dog poop a beautiful pink in an attempt to highlight the amount of poop just lying around and also to aid in “shaming all of yooou” dramatic loud voice. This is being headed by Mansfield District Council and also hopes the scheme will help walkers avoid squashing the substance deep into the soles of their shoes.
Admittingly there are some days where even regular footpaths not just parks are a mine field of ploops, poops and splatters that I need to dodge and avoidd so I think that this is quite a helpful idea. But I must admit, much like watching those tv documentaries on how we are “killiiiing the world” dramatic loud voice again I will feel very annoyied and want not to see or know about it and want to hide somewhere till it all is magically better.
This project in Nottinghamshire is being launched as part of National Poop Scoop week. The community group that maintains the park will be given the pink spray to highlight the unwanted dog mess. A spokesman for the authority said:
Hopefully if dog owners see pink dye everywhere they will think twice and clean up their dog’s mess.
We have fined a few people but we can’t have enforcement officers there all the time. It’s quite a popular beauty spot and it does attract a few dog walkers. The vast majority of owners clear up after their pets but some don’t.
‘It’s also a way of letting people see it so they don’t step in it.
But dont’ worry people the dye is biodegradable. The person in charge, Councillor Eddie Smith said:
Although dog owners face a £50 fine for not picking up their animal’s waste, as a district council we would much rather the environment was kept clear in the first place
If this scheme helps to combat the problem, it is appropriate that we should support it.
So as well as providing some residents with the pink highlighter, the authority also issues 500,000 free bags every year for clearing up mess – all that money on dog poop…!!!
