what the fuck? Just because she’s a slut doesn’t mean she should have to ruin the rest of her life by being registered as a sex offender. It’s these types of idiots that are ruining my country. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
@Domestic Scientist: Hey! We missed you around here!
It’s not so much that there are idiots ruining the country (although I’m not denying the case in both you and my countries!), but more the fact that the laws are antiquated–technology is moving faster than legislation. I saw a very interesting article on that point that I’m going to blog about later, but the idea is that the legal world can’t possibly keep up with technology. There’s too much in the way of making laws to allow it to keep up. But more on this when I create my post!
@fayyaad: Sorry, was I gone that long? My Great-grandmother died so I was absent from being social last week. (She was 103, so it wasn’t a surprise or anything ^_^) I just set the blog up to post once a day. But I’m back now to bug you with potentially asinine comments!
Any idea where there’s a link to the actual judgement? I don’t have time to google this.
@ Fayyaad – the law has not kept pace with technology, but then the law is as slow at changing as a 3 toed sloth! (or a crippled snail). That is, unless you want to get rid of the Scorpions.
Maybe a guilty verdict at production of pr0n, but the sentence should have been lighter as the purpose of the production was not for commercial exploitation of children etc… The problem is that there are really REALLY sick ppl out there and there has to be some sort of balance between freedom of kids to “just be kids” and the danger that people pose to those kids.
The judge got the balance wrong.
On a related note, a deputy headmaster in PTA is suing some schoolboys for photoshopping his head and the headmaster’s head on some gay Pr0n. – It’s a defamation action. According to the SABC news this morning he’s asking for R600k (60k USD 😦 ) Unfortunately, judges in SA are parsimonious with defamation awards, but you never know, this may be the first case to break the damages barrier. A schoolboy prank too far? – I don’t know, but they should also be charged with underage possession of pr0n.
I agree with the author of the article – the girl did something wrong, but it wasn’t sexually abusing herself. If anything, it was sexually harassing the receivers of her pictures, and potentially causing herself harm. Stupid kid.
